Background:

The Huntsman is that rare costumed adventurer who's probably better known in his civilian identity that he is in costume. As Donald Hunter, he served his country as a soldier in Korea, in Vietnam, and in several different bush wars on four different continents. Eventually, he became a special agent answerable only to the President and the Joint Chievs of Staff, and took on a number of assignments that required him to hunt and bring down some rather unsavory enemies of America. This was how he earned his nickname, the Huntsman, a name he later adopted as his costumed identity.

Although he has no superpowers, as such, the Huntsman is an ideal physical specimen. He has amazing quick reflexes, has trained himself to the peak of perfection in both mind and body, and is skilled in the use of every weapon known to man. In costume, the Huntsman's trademark weaponry is based on applications of sonic energy. In addition to versatility, sonics provide the Huntsman with a non-lethal form of attack.

The Huntsman also has the good genetic fortune to be from a line of extremely long-lived males. His father, Roland Hunter, is well over a hundred years old, but could easily pass for man in his 50s. The Huntman himself is just over 90, but still looks to be in his 30s. This apparent youth has on occasion caused the Huntsman some difficulty in dealing with women who are in truth less than half his age. There was one woman in particular who was quite intent on pursuing a relationship with him, to the point that he finally gave up and married her. This is current wife, Julia Rose Hunter, aka Psyche.

But Rose is not Donald's first wife. He was married once before, albeit briefly, to his distant cousin, Elena Savage Hunter, aka the Liberty Girl. He married her shortly after he returned from Korea in 1953, then lost her in the autumn of 1956, when she sacrificed herself to save humanity from Hitler's final legacy, a murderous demonic entity known as Daemon Kreuz. It took many years for Donald to move on after the Liberty Girl's seeming demise, but he eventually, only to learn quite recently that his Elena, although long since declared legally dead, had in fact returned.

The Huntsman was a founding member and first chairman of the League of Champions. He is an active member of the team, and has formally resumed the responsibilities of the chair, but as Donald Hunter he has always had other responsibilities that prevented him from making a total commitment to the League.

After his father's retirement, in the aftermath of a compromising incident involving the occult criminal organization DEMON, Donald was obliged to step up as CEO of the multi-national corporation, Hunter Industries. That remains his principal focus, but whenever the League of Champions, our his country need him, he will step up and do what needs to be done.
